Other significant cars in my life.

Left to right, above: The MG-TC was such a beauty! We bought it in 1953, and sold it to a friend when I was expecting Peter. It was certainly not a practical car for a baby. The Model T Ford in the center is the car my father had when I was born. A reference to that is on the page of my early days. I learned to drive in the 1934 Ford sedan, on the right. I found two pictures of it; if you click on this one, you'll come to a page with both photos, and some of my memories, as well as a mystery car. I took delivery of the Saab (to the right, in front of my house in Napa) in Gothenberg, Sweden, and lived in it for the next two months in 1990, traveling all over Eastern Europe. I stayed in campgrounds for safety, and in order to have access to toilets and showers, much as we had done in 1959 (below). It was a great experience, and an interesting time to be exploring Eastern Europe.

We bought this VW van in Holland in 1959. It had been a mobile "green grocery" van, and had shelves in it already. We put windows in the doors, built benches, and using more boards and foam pads, made it so we could convert the rear between a table or a bed. Peter slept in the front seat, which was a full bench in this model. We lived in this truck from February to September, 1959, and roamed around most of Europe and Morocco in it, staying in campgrounds, where we had access to toilets and showers. We lived in Morocco for two years, and sold this truck there just before we left. For the next five months we traveled in a proper red and white, almost new Westfalia Camper van, which we bought from friends who were moving to Bolivia, and found they coudn't take a vehicle with them.
